The
Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Shri G.M. Siddeswara informed the
Lok Sabha today that the following airports in India are having
world-class facilities / world-class terminal buildings: New Delhi,
Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Cochin, Kolkata, Chennai, Port Blair,
Guwahati, Dibrugarh,Vishakhapatnam, Chandigarh, Raipur, Goa, Ahmedabad,
Surat, Srinagar, Ranchi, Mangalore, Mysore, Trivandrum, Calicut,
Bhopal, Indore, Aurangabad, Nagpur, Pune, Imphal, Bhubaneshwar,
Amritsar, Jaipur, Udaipur, Madurai, Trichy, Coimbatore, Agartala,
Dehradun, Agra,Lucknow and Varanasi.
The upgradation or modernisation of airports is a continuous process
and are taken up in a phased manner depending on various factors like
availability of land free from all encumbrances, traffic demand and
commercial viability and other socio-economic considerations. The
construction of New Terminal Buildings at Tirupathi and Chandigarh
(Mohali) and expansion of Terminal Building at Jammu has been taken up.
Airports Authority of India (AAI) has further plans to construct new
Terminal Buildings at Port Blair, Hubli, Belgaum and Agartala. |
