Government of India has in the year 2013-14, approved a scheme for enhancing the tertiary care cancer facilities in the country. Under this scheme, Government of India will assist 20 State Cancer Institutes (SCI) and 50 Tertiary Care Cancer Centres (TCCC) in different parts of the country. The maximum assistance inclusive of State share for SCI is Rs. 120 crores and for TCCC is Rs. 45 crores. The Central and State share will be in the ratio 75:25, and for North East and Hill States this ratio would be 90:10.
Guidelines for the Strengthening of Tertiary Care Cancer facilities scheme were circulated to the States in the month of January 2014 inviting detailed proposals. Since then, we have received proposals from various States including Government Medical College, Kozhikode for TCCC.
After examining the proposals received, the deficiencies, if any, are communicated to the Institutes/State Governments concerned. Proposals are considered by a Standing Committee constituted for this purpose. The first meeting of the Standing Committee, where 7 proposals were considered, was held on 19.03.2014.
The Health Minister was replying to a question in the Lok Sabha here today.
