Handing Over of Rupsi Airport Approved

The Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Shri G.M. Siddeswara informed the Lok Sabha today that the Ministry of Civil Aviation, on the request of Air HQ (MoD),
had approved the proposal of handing over of Rupsi Airport, which belongs to Airports Authority of India, to IAF on lease, for its development for joint user needs, i.e. both civil flight operations and defence requirements. The issue was deliberated in the proceedings of 61st Plenary of North East Council held on 27.6.2012.

In order to hand over the requisite land at Rupsi Airport to IAF, before signing the lease agreement, the airport land boundary needs to be properly ear-marked. The Revenue Department of the Government of Assam has completed the survey of land and fixing of the boundary stones. Further handing over of land and reopening of the Airport depends upon the updation of land records by the Government of Assam and active co-ordination by IAF.
